The guy who was supposed to “drain the swamp” made it more infested than ever as corruption investigations and indictments across agencies seem to sprout daily. Meanwhile, members of Congress are more like eternally-out-of-touch hamsters on spinning wheels than distinguished legislators trying to fix real problems of everyday Americans. Read more

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) -- At 18-years-old, most people are thinking about graduating from high school and then getting a job or going to college, but a Davenport teenager wants a seat on the Davenport City Council.
“I’m willing to have people write me off for my age or my gender or for any other factor if it means I can help,” said Alexandra Dermody, a candidate running for Ward 7.

Teenage political newcomer announces candidacy for Davenport alderman

Davenport resident Alexandra Dermody has announced she is running for the alderman seat now held by mayoral candidate Mike Matson, becoming the first person to publicly declare an intention for his job with eight months to go until the municipal election.
In a post on the left-leaning politics blog Bleeding Heartland last week, Dermody described herself as an 18-year-old political newcomer who wants to address Davenport’s underfunded public schools, growing spikes in youth crime and public corruption in local government. Though Davenport’s municipal elections are nonpartisan, she says she’s running under the banner of the third-party label Alliance Party of Iowa, an organization that calls itself a mixed bag of former Independents, Democrats and Republicans. BOONTON — Local political leaders today announced the formation of the Alliance Party of New Jersey (APNJ), one of 22 state affiliates of the new, fast-growing Alliance Party, to impact 2020 elections as a viable moderate option for voters whose views, values and futures are no longer represented by existing parties.
“We are at a crossroads in American history,” said New Jersey Chair Nick Kumburis. “The two major parties were formed from an archaic power dynamic before women or people of color could vote, and today those parties fail to represent the majority of America. A South Carolina-centric third party is expanding nationwide.
The American Party of South Carolina, which since 2014 has run third-party candidates statewide, is merging with other third parties across the country to form the Alliance Party to challenge Democrats and Republicans nationwide in the 2020 elections.
The new party was launched Thursday at the S.C. State House, the first state Alliance Party to officially get up and running. Read more
